Ruminating Lambs

It is so cute to see the lambs resting, contentedly, chewing their cuds. It looks so peaceful, and they look so thoughtful. They grow up so fast. They are still on milk but also eating hay. Rumination is an essential step in the digestive process of sheep and other ruminants (cattle, deer, antelope, bison, buffalo, elk, caribou, reindeer, wildebeest, moose, musk oxen, goats, camels, llamas, alpacas, guanacos, vicunas, ok I will stop now...), and it is one of the things that distinguishes them from monogastric (one-stomach) herbivores, like horses and elephants.

I could watch them doing this all day. Fortunately you have to watch for only a few seconds! unless you play the videos over and over.
